EAP Exemption Alternatives:
Aside from taking the EAP test and receiving an exempt designation that allows students to bypass the CSU placement tests, another option for students to be considered exempt is by meeting at least one of the following in each category:
English Proficiency:
- 500 or above on the SAT reading reasoning test
- 22 or above on the ACT English test
- 3, 4 or 5 on either the Language and Composition or Literature and Composition exam of the Advanced Placement program
- Completion and transfer to the CSU of a college course that satisfies the requirement in English Composition, with a grade of C or better
Math Proficiency:
- 550 or above on the SAT math subject test
- 23 or above on the ACT math test
- 3, 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Calculus AB or Calculus BC exam
- 3, 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Statistics exam
- Completion and transfer to the CSU of a college course that satisfies the requirement in Quantitative reasoning, with a grade of C or better
ELM/EPT exams
The ELM/EPT are one-time assessments that help CSUs determine what level of mathematics, reading and writing courses you should take upon enrollment. You may be exempt if you:

SAT Math test score is 550 or higher |
| English ACT score is 22 or higher. | ACT Math test score is 23 or higher |
| AP Language and Composition score is 3 or higher. |

| AP Composition and Literature score is 3 or higher. |
International Baccalaureate Math score is 4 or higher. |
| International Baccalaureate English score is 4 or higher. |
EAP Math score is "EXEMPT". |
| EAP English score is "EXEMPT". | EAP Math "CONDITIONAL EXEMPT" status is met through successfully completing a Senior Year Mathematics Experience (SYME). |
