Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) Requirement

If You Did Not Pass the ELM:

ELM Score: 40-48 – You must take 1 class – preferably in your 1st semester

• 1st semester (Fall) take Cal State San Marcos Math 30
  

ELM Score: 30-38 – You must take 2 classes  in your 1st & 2nd semester 

• 1st semester (Fall) take Math 20
  
• 2nd semester (Spring) take Cal State San Marcos Math 30
  

ELM Score: 0-28 – You must take 3 classes – must take them in your 1st & 2nd semester

• 1st semester (Fall) take Math 10 first half of semester, take Math 20 second half of semester
  
• 2nd semester (Spring) take Cal State San Marcos Math 30
  

***If you do not clear your ELM requirement by the end of your first year, you will be disenrolled from CSUSM and not allowed to return until you have done so.

If you experience extenuating circumstances preventing you from clearing your ELM requirement within your first year of enrollment at CSUSM, you can submit a Petition for Exception for an extension.
