George Diehr, Ph.D.
Dr. George Diehr has been on the faculty of the College of Business Administration at CSUSM since 1990, the first year classes were taught. He retired in July 2013, and is now participating in the Faculty Early Retirement Program. His primary teaching is in areas of management science and information systems. In addition to teaching, he has held several administrative positions including interim dean and chair of the university’s academic senate. He was also active in the faculty union, the California Faculty Association. His academic research and publications include textbooks and articles in professional journals on database management and applied statistics. Prior to joining the CSU faculty, Dr. Diehr was on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Business Administration in Seattle.
Since 2003, Dr. Diehr has served on the Board of Administration of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, CalPERS. He was elected to this position by the approximately 250,000 state employees who he represents. He was re-elected for a second 4-year term in 2007, and a third (and final) term in 2011. He presently serves as Vice Chair of the Investment Committee and Vice Chair of the Health Benefits Committee.
Dr. Diehr represents CalPERS as a member of the board of the National Coalition on Health Care.
He is currently working with Dr. Jack Leu in the development and operation of a certificate program in Health Information Technology and Management. He also participates on faculty search and retention/tenure/promotion committees.
Professor Diehr received MBA and PhD degrees from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Harvey Mudd College.
