
CSUSM’s Vineyard Management Series is produced in partnership with Pete Anderson, San Diego winegrower and mentor in the SD Amateur Winemaking Society, and the CSU Fresno Department of Viticulture and Enology.
Fresno State was the first university in the United States to have a license to produce, bottle and sell wine. Since 1997, Fresno State Winery has received over 500 medals at commercial wine tastings, including over 100 "Super" awards--Best of Show, Best of Region, Best of Class, etc.
Instructor: John Giannini, Winemaker, CSU Fresno Winery
John Giannini is the winemaker of Fresno State Vineyards, California State University. John completed the enology program in 1999, and his M.S. degree in 2010 from Fresno State. His winemaking experience includes the Taft Street Winery in Sebastopol and the Paso Robles wineries of Wild Horse and Vihuela. John is responsible for the production aspects of the Fresno State Winery, which includes the supervision of the winery's student intern and enology students. Currently John teaches Wine Production and Winery Management at Fresno State, and a winery equipment class in the VESTA program at Missouri State University.
