Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment
The Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Program provides opportunities for fully-prepared first and second year teachers to expand and deepen their teaching knowledge and skill. The BTSA Program also provides a smooth transition into the complex responsibilities of teaching, increases the retention of beginning teachers, and improves learning opportunities for their K-12 students.
Barahona Center
The Barahona Center for the Study of Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents, an academic center at California State University San Marcos, promotes literacy in English and Spanish and endeavors to inform current and future educational decision-makers about books centered around Latino people and culture and about books in Spanish and their value in the education of English-speaking and Spanish-speaking children and adolescents.
El Centro Barahona para el Estudio de Libros Infantiles y Juveniles en Español, un centro académico de la California State University San Marcos, promueve el aprendizaje de la lectura en inglés y en español. El Centro tiene como interés principal informar a los educadores, actuales y futuros, sobre los libros que tratan sobre los latinos y su cultura, así como los libros en español y su valor en la educación de los niños y adolescentes de habla inglesa y española.
Clinical Practice and Internship Agreements
The College of Education highly values collaborative relationships with school districts in support of the development of fully prepared teachers. We are continually seeking school districts who are willing to host our teacher candidates and with whom we can support the continued development of teacher interns. To place teacher candidates or support teacher interns, CSUSM and the school district must have a conformed agreement. Current List of Agreements
College Assistance Migrant Program
The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) is a federally funded program designed to support first year university students from migrant or seasonal farm worker families. CAMP provides first year support services to help students develop the skills necessary to succeed in college.
Distinguished Teacher in Residence Program (DTiR)
The Distinguished Teacher in Residence (DTiR) program at CSUSM came about when local superintendents expressed a desire to build collaborative relationships between their school districts and the University's teacher preparation program. The goal of this program is to establish and maintain close connections between teacher education and exemplary school practices. The DTiR program has helped create important linkages between public schools in North San Diego County and CSUSM.
Math for America
Math for America San Diego is a fellowship program founded to improve secondary mathematics education in San Diego County. MfA SD seeks to recruit, train and retain outstanding mathematics teachers to prepare high school students for college and beyond. The five-year fellowship begins when you enter the credential program at one of the three partner universities, and continues through your first years of teaching.
North County Professional Development Federation (NCPDF)
North County Professional Development Federation is a collaboration representing the San Diego County Office of Education, the College of Education at CSU San Marcos, and 25 Northern San Diego County and Southern Riverside County member districts. Resources are shared among the collaborative partners and cost effective professional development is specifically designed to address the needs of member districts (K-12). Workshops are open to all educators countywide.
San Marcos Writing Project
The San Marcos Writing Project (SMWP) is one of 190 sites of the National Writing Project (17 in California), which is a professional development network of teachers whose goal is to improve student-writing achievement by improving the teaching and learning of writing in the nation’s schools. We host Invitational and Open Institutes around relevant topics in the summer or two to three day workshops during the school year. We also host Young Writer’s Camps for two weeks in the summer at school sites around North San Diego County for students in grades two through eight.
Teacher Recruitment Project
The Teacher Recruitment Project at Cal State San Marcos has two goals:
- to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who are interested in pursuing teaching as a career.
- to increase the number of teacher candidates in the fields of math and science.
Virginia Hansen Curriculum Center & Symposium
The Hansen Endowment was established in 1998 by Mr. Victor Hansen in honor of his wife, Virginia. Virginia was first and foremost a teacher of children through and through. For four years the College of Education has hosted the Virginia Hansen Symposium, during which nationally acclaimed speakers, as well as local exemplary teachers and administrators, have provided on-going food for thought to current and future teachers. In this way, Mr. Hansen has assured that Virginia’s legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of teachers.
