Commencement 2009

California State University San Marcos holds its annual commencement ceremonies at the end of each spring semester. Students eligible to graduate in the fall, spring and summer semester of the current academic year who have filed an Application for Graduation with the Registrar’s Office, will be permitted to participate in the ceremonies.

  • Location: Grandstand at the Del Mar Fairgrounds

  • NOTE: Traffic on Interstate 5 is normally heavy on weekends – Please allocate plenty of time in your travel plans to accommodate traffic congestion.

Guests
Guest seating is not limited – tickets are not required. Parking lot entrances will open at 6:30 AM for Ceremony 1 and at 12:30 PM for Ceremony 2.

Parking
Regular fairground parking lots and fees will apply: $9 per automobile. Courtesy shuttles available to and from parking lots.

Disability Access
The Del Mar Fairgrounds will be providing wheelchair accessible trams to get individuals to and from the parking lots. There is wheelchair accessible seating dispersed throughout the Grand Stands for spectators and a platform lift to provide access to the Commencement Stage for graduates with mobility impairments. Please keep in mind that there will be no wheelchairs or motorized scooters available at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for individual use. Sign language interpreters will be provided on stage at both Commencement ceremonies. Spectators who are Deaf are strongly encouraged to contact Michelle Saavedra in Disabled Student Services by email at misaaved@csusm.edu to discuss seating needs. Photographs
Cal Candids Grad Photos will be taking professional photos at the commencement ceremonies. Proofs will be available online within 24-36 hours of the ceremony. Within two weeks of commencement, you will receive a full-color proof and an order form from Cal Candids Grad Photos. Note that portrait photography will also be available in the Mission Tower before and after each ceremony.

Cap and Gown Information
All degree candidates and ceremony participants are required to wear traditional academic regalia. This will be the first time the University Store will offer a rental gown program for students. Gowns will be returned at one of several locations available on site after each ceremony. The cap, tassel and optional medallion and stole of gratitude must be purchased and are yours to keep.
