Community Service Learning
Through community service work at local non-profit organizations, service learning brings to life the subject matter of a course by involving students in "real world" activity directly related to what is being learned in the classroom. One award-winning example is Tutor Connection.

Senior Experience
Offered through the College of Business Administration, this program involved a team of business students working on a project defined by a business or non-profit partner.

Chamber Champions
This program “imbeds” a team of University faculty and administrators into the activities and work of each of 11 local chambers of commerce as a way to continuously assess the education needs of businesses and organizations in the community and identify ways in which the university can be more effective in meeting these needs.

School Partnerships
California State University San Marcos has established formal agreements with local school districts, foster youth agencies, the San Pasqual Academy and the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel that guarantees admission to CSU San Marcos to all students meeting minimum CSU eligibility requirements.

Tribal Communities
California State University San Marcos is one of the first CSU campuses, and one of the only universities in the country, that has a Tribal Liaison dedicated to fostering positive relationships between the tribal community and the university.

Military Community
California State University San Marcos is proud to offer a variety of programs specifically for veterans and active duty military.

The Carnegie Documentation Framework (PDF) shows the variety of ways the university meets the criteria for the community engagement classification.
