Rocio Guillen (Computer Science & Information Systems), together with other colleagues, Miguel Alonso Jr. from Miami Dade College and Andres Figueroa from UT Pan American, received a grant from NSF under the Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) for three years in the amount of over $1,000,000 to Scale and Adapt CAHSI Initiatives (SACI). SACI will advance the goals of increasing the number of Hispanic, female, and other underrepresented students who enter and complete degrees in computing areas and developing and sustaining competitive academic and research programs.

Has been in the Web Analytics industry for about 8 years and worked for major players: Websidestory, VisualSciences, Omniture, Unica, WebTrends, Google and Yahoo. Started at WebSideStory in the engineering department and was moved to the core architecture team for a couple of years. Created the technology consulting practice at Websidestory and ran the department for a couple of years. Co-founded a private consulting agency that provides web analytics consulting services to companies like BestBuy, Cisco, Nike, Hasbro, Fox Sports and many others.

She works for Northrop. The CLE of Northrop recently came to campus to discuss the importance of Computer Science and Cyber Security in the near future.

Spring 2009 Dr. Ahmad Hadaegh is on sabbatical during spring of 2009.
Dr. Xiaoyu Zhang is back from his sabbatical.
November 10, 2008 The Department, in collaboration with the College of Education (CoE), has recently received two National Science Foundation grants that will be led by Dr. Youwen Ouyang from our department and Dr. Katherine Hayden from CoE. The CyberTEAM ($250,000 for two years) and iQUEST ($1.5 million for three years) projects focus on helping local middle schools to integrate technology in science education. Both projects provide CSIS students with opportunities to provide technical supports for science teachers, be a role model for middle school students, work in summer camps, and develop software applications for middle school science classrooms. Please contact Dr. Ouyang if you are interested in project participation via pay or course credits.
July 1, 2008 Dr. Rocio Guillen will become the new CSIS Department Chair.
February 21, 2008 Students can fulfill the Discrete Mathematics requirement with Math 270. This course will be offered during the Fall 2008 semester.
September 17, 2007 Erik Eldridge, a Computer Science major at Cal State San Marcos, was named one of 23 California State University (CSU) students to receive the 2007/08 William R. Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement. Congratulations Erik!
Fall 2007 Students can fulfill the Computer Competency Requirement by passing CS 100.
Fall 2006 Computer Science students no longer need to take an additional course for BB since a math or physics course you take for the degree satisfies BB. This is for all catalogue years.
