Physics major Anne Marie Jensen is the RAP Coordinator for San Diego EMS-Rural/Metro of San Diego and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and was selected as the 2012 Paramedic of the Year by her peers. She co-authored an article on San Diego's eRAP system with James Dunford, M.D. in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services.
Math majors Jesus Hernandez, Derek Hoeft, Rani Hermiz, Kenny Courser, Jason Hultman, and Alex Toole attended the American Mathematical Society/Mathematical Assocation of America's AMS-MAA Joint Meetings Annual Conference in San Diego with Dr. Andre Kundgen and Dr. Shahed Sharif.

Dr. Eamonn Keogh, CSIS alumni, has generously donated to the Computer Science major scholarship. Dr. Keogh graduated in 1995 and credits Dr. Rika Yoshii (CSIS) with encouraging him to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Keogh is now a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at UCR and recently featured in their Fall 2012 magazine. Thank you for your generosity to your alum!

Congratulations to Dominica Ranieri, a first-generation college senior majoring in Biochemistry at CSUSM, who was named one of 23 California State University (CSU) students to receive the 2012-2013 William R. We had 48 student volunteers on campus, working with faculty in every discipline on summer research projects. The American Chemical Society National Meeting was held March 25-28 in San Diego. Research was presented by: Jamie Do (BIOCHEM), Jehovani Lopez (BIOCHEM), B. Trevor Carney (CHEM), Alexandra Porobic (BIOCHEM/PHYS), Temet McMichael (BIOCHEM), Raechel Mendelsohn (CHEM), Patricia Velasco (BIOL), Denisse Reyes (BIOL/CHEM), Roxanne Echon (BIOL), Daniel Larsen (BIOT), and Leanna Tuscano (BIOL). Dr. Jackie Trischman, Chemistry, served as corresponding author and faculty mentor.
Dr. Shahed Sharif, Mathematics, and several of his students attended The 7th Annual Pacific Coast Undergraduate Mathematics Conference on March 10th at Cal Poly Ponoma. Sponsored by the Hypatians Student Outreach.

Jehovani Lopez (BIOCHEM), Temet McMichael (CHEM), and Abel Rios (BIOCHEM), working wtih Dr. Jackie Trischman, Chemistry, participated in the CSUSM Student Research Competition, organized by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research and the Student Affairs Committee of the Academic Senate. Jehovani Lopez was selected as a campus winner for his work, "Isolation and characterization of anti-mycobacterial metabolites from the extract of marine bacterial strain UA-323" and will be attending the 26th Annual State Competition at CSU, Long Beach in May.

Trevor Carney (CHEM), Alexandra Porobic (BIOCHEM/PHYS), and Temet McMichael (BIOCHEM). Dr. Jackie Trischman, Chemistry, served as corresponding author and faculty mentor.
Physics student Alan Colio attended the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society (APS) of Plasma Physics in Salt Lake City, Utah. His research at General Atomics-Fusion on a new engineering application to improve the capabilitiles of their current DIIII-D tokamak timing sequence unit was part of a poster presentation at the conference.
