Dean's Message
Since California State University San Marcos opened its doors to its first students, our institution has distinguished itself by its pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit. In 2010, its 20th year, CSUSM celebrated the tremendous impact we have had on our region. As we enter our third decade, we are now looking forward to and planning for the future educational needs of our rapidly growing and changing region. One sign of change has been the formation of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) and my appointment in 2011 as its founding dean. During the past year, my mind has focused on achievements: the proud past of the science and mathematics faculty, staff and students; their accomplishments today; and the successes we will realize in the future.
Wayne Gretzky once said, "A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be." CSM is positioning itself to be a resource for innovation and workforce development in the region. Building upon the successes and accomplishments of the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) from which it emerged, CSM is creating a brand identity and fulfilling its commitment to building and sustaining a supportive and inspiring undergraduate and Master's level academic environment that helps our students reach their potential for success.
