Your CSUEU Chapter 321 E-Board is organizing a Furlough Friday Legislator Office Visit on the 21st. At some point, all chapters statewide will follow suit, but we'll be the first to show them the way... the CSUEU Chapter 321 San Marcos way! One of our main goals is to make one of our office visits big enough to entice the media to show up and get some news coverage. We're trying to educate the public on our plight, the plight of the CSU and the plight of higher ed funding in general and the news media is the best thing going when it comes to informing the public.
We have an appointment set with Senator Wyland's office for 11:00-11:30 on the 21st and are awaiting a reply to our appointment request from Assemblyman Garrick’s office. We'll be sure to let you know when the appointment/s are, if there are any available, as soon as we know. We'll be coupling our office visit with a capwiz: email, fax, phone blitz the day before too. More details to follow, so stay tuned.
President Haynes stated that she would join us in legislator office visits (during the budget forum before last) and I'm hoping she'll be able to honor that promise on the 21st. We invited local CFA, APC, SUPA and SETC chapters and the campus Executive Council to join us too. Even though faculty are still on break and are being swamped with complex furlough decisions, local CFA leadership has stated that they will email their members very soon and will get back to us. We may even get some supporters from other SoCal CSUEU chapters too!
So here's what we have to do to make this a success:
1) We'll need as many of you as possible to sign up for a
legislator office visit ASAP via our web form located here: http://www.csusm.edu/csueu/
2) We'll need a local action committee that will help organize the event, mainly: organizing transportation (carpooling), creating posters, getting water and possibly lunch, etc. To volunteer please send an email to your E-Board at: 321-executive@lists.csueu.org
3) We'll need help organizing an informational meeting touching on what the issues are, educating our members on what our message is and the most effective way to get your elected representatives to take action. To volunteer to help organize the informational meeting, please send an email to your E-Board at: 321-executive@lists.csueu.org
Our local statewide legislators have staunchly opposed measures and legislation that would have improved funding for higher ed for several years now. Let's let them know that we are voters, our families and friends are voters and the places we do business with are voters and we are going to be letting all of them know our legislator's record on higher ed funding and the devastating impact reduced higher ed funding has our communities, cities and state. Hopefully, with enough pressure and action on our part, we can get some action on their part to Save our Future, Save our Students, Save our Jobs and Save our State!
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone who you feel may support our cause and take action.
In solidarity,
Your CSUEU Chapter 321 Executive Board
