Cal State San Marcos Accounting Professor
Receives National Recognition

Dale R. Geiger, Professor of Accounting at California State University San Marcos, has received the Association of Government Accountants' Cornelius E. Tierney/Ernst & Young Research Award.  The award was presented July 7 in San Francisco.

The award recognizes individuals who, throughout their careers, have made continuous contributions to government financial management by their direct participation in research activities and/or through their encouragement and support of others engaged in government financial management research. It is named for Cornelius E. Tierney, a pioneer in the government financial management arena.  Tierney is a retired partner in the accounting firm of Ernst & Young.

Dr. Geiger, active in both the San Diego and Washington, D.C. chapters of the association, has a 28-year career that brings a unique combination of state-of-the-art management experience and scholarly academic thought to the challenge of improving cost management in government. His research has focused exclusively on the current and potential uses of management accounting and control systems in government.

A member of the San Marcos faculty since 1992, Dr. Geiger is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  In addition to his faculty appointment at Cal State San Marcos, Dr. Geiger is a frequent visiting faculty member at George Washington University in Washington, D. C.
