Cal State San Marcos Track Team Competes in Benny Brown

Cougar Qualifies for NAIA Nationals
The
Cal State San Marcos Track and Field team competed in the Benny Brown
Invitational on Saturday, March 9, 2002. The meet was hosted by California
State University Fullerton.
Highlights
of the day included a first place finish by freshman Jason Williams in the
men's 400 m intermediate hurdles with a time of 52.52 seconds. Last week
he qualified for NAIA Nationals in this event at USC's Trojan
Invitational.
For
the women of Cal State San Marcos, senior Renee McDonald placed third in
the women's 5,000 m run with a time of 18:01.96. With this time, she has
qualified for the NAIA Nationals. The NAIA standard qualifying time is
18:06.35. She ran against 25 other women.

Autumn
Right, a freshman, finished in 12.17 seconds, the 9th fastest time; Andrea
Jackson, a sophomore, finished in 13.23 seconds, the 31st fastest time;
Jessica Walker, a junior, finished in 13.29 seconds, the 33rd fastest
time; and Tiffany Lowery, a freshman, finished in 13.38 seconds, the 35th
fastest time. There were 47 runners.
200
m dash:
Andrea
Jackson finished in 27.68 seconds, the 33rd fastest time; Jessica Walker
finished in 27.78 seconds, the 34th fastest time.
400
m dash:
Amy
Cutshaw, a junior, finished with the seventh best time, 58.10 seconds; and
Luci Downey, a junior, finished with the ninth fastest time, 58.21
seconds.
5,000
m run:
Renee
MacDonald, a senior, finished in 18:01.96, the third fastest; Lanele Cox,
a junior, finished in 18:36.30, the eighth fastest time; and Katherine
Niblett, a sophomore, finished with the 10th fastest time, 18:45.29.
100
m hurdles: Abril
Jiminez, a sophomore finished in 15th with a time of 16.48 seconds. There
were 20 runners.

relay:
Finished
in second place with a time of 49.73 seconds. There were 5 teams in the
event.
4x400
relay:
Finished
in third place with a time of 4:00.35.
There were 6 teams in the event.

Cline, a sophomore, finished in 26th with a time of 2:06.21. There were 40

Houghton, a junior, finished in 13th with a time of 15:03.28; and Omar
Zavala, a junior, finished in 22nd with 15:41.22. There were 26 runners in
the event.

Williams, a freshman, finished in 1st place out of 19 runners with a time
of 52.52 seconds.

Sullivan, a junior, finished in 5th with 9:28.50. There were 15 runners.

were 15 competitors.

Juba, a freshman, had the 20th best jump at a height of 19'11'' (6.07 m);
followed by John Feehan, a freshman, in 21st with a jump of 18'11.75 (5.78
m).

javelin throw:
Ed Wurz, a junior,
finished in fifth place out of 17 ahtletes with a distance of 177'05''.
