March 23, 2002 Cal State San Marcos Track Team Competes in Aztec
Invitational
Cal
State San Marcos competed in the San Diego State University Aztec
Invitational, Saturday, March 23, 2002. By the end of the day, two new
Cougar school records were set and the women's 4 x 100 m relay team and a
men's distance runner qualified for nationals. For
the first time in the team's young history, Cal State San Marcos will send
a women's 4 x 100 m relay team to the NAIA Nationals. They were automatic
qualifiers with a time of 48.43 seconds. The team consisted of Andrea
Jackson, a sophomore from Oceanside; Autumn Wright, a freshman from San
Diego; Jessica Walker, a junior from San Diego; and Tiffany Lowery, a
freshman from Escondido. Kris
Houghton, a junior from Tualitin, Oregon, qualified for the NAIA Nationals
in the 5,000 m run, with a time of 14:51. He also finished third for the
day. Among
the other highlights from the day were two new Cal State San Marcos school
records. In the men's pole vault, James Barbour, a sophomore from Poway,
finished with a height of 15'5".
Head coach Steve Scott qualified it as a "respectable
jump." In the javelin, Ed Wurz, a junior from Daly City, Calif.,
