Cal State San Marcos Competes among International Athletes at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

The Cal State San Marcos track and field team competed today, April 19, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational along with athletes from across the U.S. and the globe, including Asia, Africa and Canada.  Several Cougar athletes performed well, and several finished with NAIA National qualifying times. The event took place at Pomona College.

Highlights from Cal State San Marcos women's team:

Autumn Wright, who was already qualified for nationals, took 21st in the 100 m dash among a field of 88 runners. Her time was 12.33 seconds.

Amy Cutshaw, who's also qualified for nationals, finished in 14th among 48 runners in the 400 m with a time of 56.56 seconds.

Katherine Niblett finished with in 6th and with a national qualifying time of 18.02.79 in the 5,000 m run. Lanele Cox finished in 17th out of the field of 38 runners, with a time of 19:12.42.

The 4 x 400 relay team finished in fourth and qualified for NAIA nationals with a time of 3:54.02.

Renee MacDonald finished in 23rd out of 41 in the men’s and women’s 10,000 m run with a time of 37:29.90. With this time, she qualifies for the NAIA Nationals.

Highlights from Cal State San Marcos men's team:

Kris Houghton finished 6th out of 37 runners in the 5,000 m run with a time of 15:05.51.

Brian Sullivan came in second in the 3,000 m steeplechase with a national qualifying time of 9:20.07.

Omar Zavala finished in 7th out of 41 runners in the men's and women's 10,000 m run with a time of 33:25.08.

Ed Wurz finished 8th out of 31 competitors in the javelin throw with a distance of 169'11".
