Cal State San Marcos Track Team Faces off against County Competition
The Cal State San Marcos track and field team competed yesterday, March 8, 2003, in the San Diego Collegiate Championships, hosted by the University of California, San Diego.
Overall, the women’s team finished fourth with a team score of 70. San Diego State University took first with 217.50 points, followed by host UC San Diego with 206.50 points, and Point Loma Nazarene in third with 109. University of San Diego finished fifth with 6 points.
The Cougar men finished third overall with a team score of 119.50. UC San Diego took the top place with 241 points, followed by Point Loma Nazarene with 171.50 points. Alliant University took fourth with 38 points.
Cougar women's results:
100 m dash: Andrea Jackson finished sixth with :12.86.
200 m dash: Luci Downey took fifth with :26.78; Andrea Jackson took sixth with :26.87.
400 m dash: Luci Downey took fourth with :58.96.
800 m run: Camille Wilborn took sixth with 2:24.75; Katherine Niblett tied for 10th with 2:30.47; and Carissa Marin took 12th with 2:33.24.
1,500 m run: Camile Wilborn took fifth with 4:55.60; Anne Marie Byrne took seventh with 4:57.63; and Carissa Marin took 11th with 5:10.03.
3,000 m run: Katherine Niblett took third with 10:37.72; Anne Marie Byrne took seventh with 10:56.70; and Yolanda Carillo took 17th with 11:43.54.
100 m hurdles: Samantha Barbour took eighth with :19.27.
3,000 m steeplechase: Olympia Olguin took third with 13:50.18.
4x400 m relay: The women’s team took fifth overall with 4:18.37.
Long jump: Samantha Barbour took 10th with 4.66 m (15-03.50).
Triple jump: Samantha Barbour took ninth with 10.00 m (32-09.75).
Shot put: Cynthia Flores took fifth with a throw of 11.67 m (38-03.50); Victoria Ciulla took seventh with a throw of 9.33 m (30-07.50).
Discuss throw: Victoria Ciulla took sixth with a throw of 30.35 m (99-07); Cynthia Flores took seventh with a throw of 30.32 m (99-06).
Javelin throw: Victoria Ciulla took ninth with a throw of 23.20 m (76-01); Samantha Barbour took 10th with a throw of 20.10 m (65-11).

1,500 m run: Mike Shannon took first with 4:03.29; followed by Tony Herr is second with 4:03.35; Richie Gray is third with 4:06.67; and Tim Irwin in ninth with 4:14.31.
3,000 m run: Jesse Armijo took fifth 9:06.79; Omar Zavala took sixth with 9:12.74; Carlos Sanchez took eighth with 9:19.27; Matt McCarron took 10th with 9:22.99; Eddie Mariscal took 11th with 9:33.30; Effrain Carillo took 12th with 9:41.43.
110 m hurdles: Robert Volasco took third with :15.91.
400 m hurdles: Robert Volasco took third with :55.15.
3,000 m steeplechase: Jesse Armijo took first with 9:44.49; Wes Bryant took fourth with 10:08.10.
4x100 m relay: The men’s team took second with :45.56.
4x400 m relay: The men’s “B” team took fifth with 3:27.50; and the men’s “A” team took sixth with 3:30.90.
Pole vault: James Barbour took first with 5 m (16-04.75); Moises Loza took fourth with 4.15 m (13-07.25).
Shot put: Ed Wurtz took third with 12.99 m (42-07.50).
