Cal State San Marcos Track Team Competes in UCSD Spring Break Challenge

The Cal State San Marcos track and field team competed today, March 29, in the UCSD Spring Break Challenge at Triton Track and Field Stadium. The women’s team placed 7^th overall, and the men’s team placed 6^th overall. The full results are available at www.athletics.ucsd.edu.

Cal State San Marcos Women’s Results:

100 m dash: Andrea Jackson, junior, placed 6^th with :12.85; Katrena Jackson, junior, placed 14^th with :13.81.

400 m dash: Luci Downey, senior, placed 4^th with 1:01.01.

800 m run: Camille Wilborn, junior, placed 5^th with 2:21.39.

1,500 m run: Ann Marie Byrne, freshman, placed 7^th with 4:55.47; Olympia Olguin, freshman, placed 23^rd with 5:41.21.

5,000 m: Ann Marie Byrne, freshman, placed 15^th with 20:11.14.

4x400 m relay: Cal State San Marcos placed 2^nd with 4:05.15. Team consisted of Andrea Jackson, Abril Jimenez, Camille Wilborn, and Lucinda Downey.

Shot put: Cynthia Flores placed 10^th with 11.49 m.

Discus: Cynthia Flores placed 15^th with 27.52 m; Victoria Ciulla, junior, placed 16^th with 26.29 m.

Javelin: Victoria Ciulla, junior, placed 13^th with 25.86 m.

Cal State San Marcos Men’s Results:

100 m dash: Yanta Morrow, junior, placed 8th with :11.37; James Rankin, freshman, placed 17^th with :12.28.

200 m dash: Yanta Morrow placed 10th with :23.40; James Rankin, freshman, placed 20^th with :25:34.

400 m dash: Dax Solorzano, junior, placed 7^th with :50.69.

800 m dash: Richie Gray, freshman, placed 3^rd with 1:56.63; Marco Alvarado, freshman, placed 10^th with 1:58.13; Tim Irwin, freshman, placed 16^th with 1:59.24; and Polo Mariscal, freshman, placed 24^th with 2:04.48.

1,500 m run: Tony Herr, junior, placed 1^st with 3:59.97; Mike Shannon, junior, placed 4^th with 4:02.06; Justin Lessel, sophomore, placed 9^th with 4:09.31; Matt McCarron, freshman, placed 15^th with 4:20.94; and Effrain Carillo, freshman, placed 20^th with 4:31.79.

5,000 m: Jesse Armijo, junior, placed 5^th with 15:16.22; Rene Reyes, sophomore, placed 22^nd with 16:28.95.

110 m hurdles: Anthony Blacksher, senior, placed 2nd with :14.71, and qualified for NAIA Nationals.

400 m hurdles: Robert Velasco, junior, placed 4th with :54.68; Anthony Blacksher, senior, placed 6^th with :57.59.

3,000 m steeple chase: Carlos Sanchez, freshman, placed 9^th with 10:22.10.

4x400 relay: Cal State San Marcos placed 3rd with 3:21.66. Team consisted of Dax Solorzano, Justin Lessel, Robert Velasco, and Tony Herr.

High Jump:  Donald Harris, senior, placed 4^th with 1.92 m.

Pole vault: Jimmy Barbour, senior, placed 2^nd with 4.65 m; Moises Loza, sophomore, placed 4^th with 4.20 m.

Shot put: Ed Wurtz, senior, placed 9^th with 12.35 m.

Discus: Ed Wurtz, senior, placed 11^th with 39.22 m.

Javelin: Ed Wurtz, senior, placed 3rd with 53.49 m.
