Summer Academy
Participating teachers attend a 3-day academy each summer. The 2008 Summer Academy focused on Plate Tectonics witha guest lecture by Dr. Debi Kilb from Scripps Institution of Oceanography Visualization Center. One day of the institute provided a field trip to SIO and a visitation to the Birch Aquarium where a seismograpic is exhibited. A lecture was also given by a Dr. Rob Newman, a research who works closely with SIO on the "Array Network Facility" in gathering data and distributing it for public use, he is also a member of the Scripps Visualization Center.The second 3-day Summer Academy was held July 20 and 22 at CSUSM campus and at Scripps Institution of Oceanography on July 21st. Presenters for the 2009 Summer Academy included Dr. Debi Kilb speaking on earthquake research, Dr. Fabian Walters speaking on Icequakes, Dr. Bridget Konter speaking on Plate Tectonics & Tsunamis and Dr. Richard (Dick) Norris, who presented a tour of the core samples from the Cored Sediment and Microfossil Collection.
