UHET Purpose

The purpose of the California State University San Marcos University Hazing Education Team (UHET) is to:

  • Proactively address hazing through preventative education
  • Promote the health and safety of CSUSM students  
  • Foster the development of positive campus traditions
  • Promote positive student group identity development 

About UHET

UHET capitalizes on the knowledge and expertise of a cross-divisional university team involving staff from the Dean of Students Office, Student Life and Leadership, University Police Department, Office of Athletics, Clarke Field House/University Student Union, and Associated Students, Inc.  UHET intervention strategies and plans include:

  • Design hazing prevention efforts to be broad and inclusive of all students involved in campus organizations and athletic teams
  • Educate the campus community about the dangers and consequences of hazing
  • Offer students, faculty, and staff/coaches with resources to promote positive campus traditions and student group identity
  • Offer local and nationally-known hazing educators to speak with CSUSM students about hazing and related topics such as alcohol use
  • Develop safe and innovate methods for CSUSM community members to report potential hazing incidents
