Master of Arts in Education - Communicative Sciences & Disorders Option
The MA in Education degree with the Option in Communicative Sciences and Disorders program will prepare students for practice in the field of speech-language pathology. Graduate students will develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of practice related to:- Assessment and treatment of individuals across the lifespan with a broad array of communication and swallowing disorders, including: articulation, phonological, fluency, voice, motor speech, language, dysphagia and cognitive-linguistic disorders.
- Response-to-Intervention and Relationship-based Intervention approaches to treating individuals with communication disorders.
- Counseling, augmentative communication and aural rehabilitation
- Evidenced-based practice in the field
PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
- Cohort based program with new cohorts beginning each Fall
- 75-unit program designed to be completed in 5 consecutive semesters (including summer term)
- Program is geared toward practice in the public schools while ensuring competencies for the full scope of the profession
- Program utilizes the latest technology in speech language pathology
- Includes 400 hours of supervised hours in speech language pathology in community based practice to prepare participants for their career
- After successfully completing all of these components, the candidate will be eligible for state licensure, CTC credentialing and ASHA certification.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Dr. Suzanne Moineau earned her degree from a Joint Doctoral Program in Language and Communicative Disorders from the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. She has an accumulated 15 years of experience in clinical practice, supervision and instruction.
