Improving Students' Academic Writing (I.S.A.W.)

Erika Wanczuk, San Marcos Writing Project Fellow, National Board Certified Teacher and teacher in San Dieguito Union High School District.
Kristin Childs, San Marcos Writing Project Fellow and teacher at Escondido Charter High School.

The San Marcos Writing Project is pleased to offer a Saturday series (five saturdays) for teachers of grades 6-12.  Participants will receive supporting materials as they develop skills for teaching academic reading and writing. Teacher-consultants from the San Marcos Writing Project will conduct all sessions. 

The institute will prepare middle and high school teachers to facilitate student writing in response to on-demand writing prompts (CAHSEE, SAT, EPT (CSU English Placement Test), AWPE (UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam)

Fee Option #1: $250  (the fee for 3 or more teachers from the same site is $200 per teacher)
~This includes five (5) sessions and two books
~Three units of graduate credit
are available for $80 per unit if you pay and attend the entire series. (You will register and pay for this at the time of the institute.)
~HOUSSE points also available (As an affiliate of the National Writing Project, the San Marcos Writing Project is authorized under NCLB, Title II, Part C as a provider of standards-aligned professional development for teachers)

Fee Option #2:  Pay $55 per session and attend only the session/s of your choice.  The first session is mandatory for all participants.
~If you attend the first day and decide to attend all five sessions, you can purchase Fee Option #1 at the regular price ($250 instead of $275).  The first day will be the last chance to change to fee option #1.
~Participants cannot earn graduate credit unless they attend all five sessions
~Participants will not receive the ISAW rubric unless they attend all five sessions
~Participants will not receive the selected books unless they attend all five sessions

Fee Option #3:  San Marcos Writing Project fellows may attend free of charge.
