"Habits of Highly Effective Teachers of Writing"

June 25 - June 29, 2012
California State University San Marcos
Monday through Friday 8:30-3:30

Facilitator: Erika Daniels, Ed.D., faculty, Cal State San Marcos and San Marcos Writing Project Fellow.

The San Marcos Writing Project is pleased to offer a one-week institute for K-12 teachers. Participants will receive books, articles, and binders supporting their work as they develop skills for teaching writing.  Teacher-consultants from the San Marcos California Writing Project will conduct all sessions.

The habits for effective teachers of writing that will be explored are-

  1. Preparing all students for the multiple demands of writing in K-12, college and career
  2. Using classroom-based assessment as a teaching and learning tool
  3. Understanding what it means to be a writer
  4. Creating a climate that encourages, supports and facilitates writing
  5. Enabling all students to find authentic purposes and audiences for writing
  6. Facilitating and provides meaningful feedback to all students
  7. Integrating writing across the curriculum; utilizing writing as thinking

Come to the workshop ready to brainstorm and collaborate! You will have time to work with other teachers in your grade level to apply ideas and materials from the workshop to your individual classroom and students' needs, ensuring that you won't leave with just another binder of good ideas to add to your shelf!

Fee:  $250
Three units of graduate credit are available for $80 a unit.  (You will register and pay for this at the time of the institute.)
