Another local option for higher education

Students interested in earning a bachelor's in business administration may only have to travel as far as Temecula to complete their course work under an arrangement between Mt. San Jacinto College and Cal State San Marcos.

Representatives of the San Marcos campus will be at Mt. San Jacinto College's San Jacinto campus on the quad from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today to answer questions about the business degree, the transfer process and other programs, according to a college news release. There's also free pizza.

Students will be able to complete general-education units and get transfer credit by taking classes at Mt. San Jacinto College and apply to transfer into the upper-division classes that will be offered at San Marcos' Temecula campus. Those classes begin in January through the extended learning program.

"That really is our target program for those students who are ready to transfer and don't want to drive down to the San Marcos campus" to complete a degree, said Regina Eisenbach, associate dean in San Marcos' College of Business.

The idea is that students will complete their lower-division classes at the community college before they are admitted to San Marcos.

Dennis Anderson, Mt. San Jacinto's vice president for instruction, wrote in an e-mail that he is pleased about the partnership.

"This serves not only our students' needs but also the needs of local businesses and service centers who may require employees with a bachelor's degree in business," he wrote.

Cal State San Marcos moved its Temecula campus in August to 43890 Margarita Road, where it occupies space in the Joan F. Sparkman Alternative Education Center. The campus already offers a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and bachelor's and master's programs in nursing.
