Post MSN Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate
Course Sequence
The Clinical Nurse Specialist certificate prepares the student for advanced practice nursing through courses in advanced assessment, advanced pathophysiology/pharmacology and advanced practice management of the chronically ill in acute care and community settings. Students in the Clinical Nurse Specialist certificate program will meet the following outcomes;
- Provide patient centered care as an Advanced Practice Nurse, recognizing the patient or designee as a full partner in decision making. Provides holistic patient centered care as an Advanced Practice Nurse to promote health, well-being and quality of life across the lifespan.
- Integrate appropriate technologies to improve health care, demonstrates information literacy skills and uses technology systems that capture data for the evaluation of nursing care.
- Anticipate variations in practice and is proactive in implementing interventions to ensure quality; applies skills in peer review to promote a culture of excellence, and evaluates the relationship among cost, access, quality and safety.
- Integrate knowledge from the humanities and sciences within the context of nursing science, and critically analyzes data and evidence for improving practice process and outcomes.
- Assume complex and advanced leadership rols, fosters collaboration with multiple stakeholders, analyzes data for quality improvement, and advocates for improved access to quality and cost effective health care.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the interdependence of policy and practice, advocates for ethica policies and analyzes ethical , legal, and social factors influencing policy development.
- Apply knowledge of organizational practices and complex systems to improve health care delivery, minimizes risk to patients and providers at the individual and systems levels, and facilitates the development of health care ystems that address the needs of culturally diverse populations, providers and other stakeholders.
- Integrate ethical principles in decision making, evaluates the ethical consequences of decisions, and applies ethically sound solutions to complex issues related to individuals, populations and systems of care.
