Program Requirements

Program Prerequisites

It is expected that you will have a combination of experience and academic preparation in Biology and Chemistry. At minimum, you will be required to have completed the following prerequisite courses:

• CHEM 150 General Chemistry
• CHEM 201/202 Organic Chemistry
• BIOL 210 Intro. to Cellular & Molecular Biology
• BIOL 211 Intro. to Organismal & Population Biology

Note: Program prerequisite courses or their equivalent may be completed via Open University, at community colleges, or at other universities.  For information about equivalent courses, visit http://www.assist.org/

Certificate Requirements 

The following credit courses are required for the certificate and must be completed with a grade point average of a "C" or better. All 16 units of the program are fully transferable academic units, and all of the units may be counted  toward the CSUSM undergraduate degree in Biotechnology.

• BIOT 356 Cellular Biotechnology (4)
• BIOT 357 Foundations of Biotechnology (2)
• BIOT 358 Computer Skills for Biotechnology (3)
• CHEM 341 Introduction to Biochemistry (3)
