Career Assessments
In this introspective session, you will complete assessment activities, participate in discussions and complete individual exercises to help you to identify and clarify your hidden talents and strengths. You will identify your five top strengths to gain an awareness of how these strengths have been used in past accomplishments and may be incorporated into potential career. You will also complete a brief in-class interest inventory based on “interest themes” and values activities and review related occupations. <return to course list>
Resumes
Come prepared to refine your resume so that it gets moved to the top of the call first file! In class exercises will focus on how to integrate strong action verbs and key accomplishment statements using quantifiable results. Identify and add keywords through job descriptions and research and create opening statements that are tailored to your targeted industry, companies and positions in San Diego. <return to course list>
Effective Interviewing Skills
This two part class will review the types of interviews and how to make a lasting impression. You will learn the value of telling your accomplishment stories and anticipate the questions and information that hiring managers want to know. Lean how non verbal communication can impact your presence and approaches to closing an interview. Then you will have the opportunity to practice your new interview strategies by participating in a mock interview with feedback from your peers and instructors. <return to course list>
Winning Negotiation Skills, Job Offer Analysis and Successful On-Boarding
You have the interview now learn the important considerations for successful negotiations. Class discussions will focus on identifying the 6 steps to effective negotiation and how to manage conflict during the negotiation process. Practice your negotiation skills with in-class scenarios and feedback. You will also learn how to utilize tools for analyzing job offers the key factors for successful start to your new job in San Diego.<return to course list>
Networking with Purpose
The majority of job opportunities are never advertised or publicly advertised so your networking skills may be the key to your next job opportunity. Develop strategies for tapping into the hidden job market and developing industry connections targeted company referrals. Create an introductory one-liner to respond to the Tell Me about Yourself question and ways to leverage social media to make new contacts and conduct effective job searches. <return to course list>
Marketing Yourself
This class will emphasize the importance of consistency in presenting oneself in any venue. Learn how to create and control your professional image and steps to implement and build upon for effectiveness. You will also develop your own marketing plan and package for both print and online messaging including social media and blogging. LinkedIn Lab
LinkedIn has become the most prominent professional job search and networking website. In this hands on class you will lean ways to maximize your presence on LinkedIn and attract attention from recruiters and potential San Diego area employers. Understand the importance and purpose of LinkedIn during a job search and how to utilize key words and groups and advanced tools for leveraging LinkedIn presence. <return to course list>
