Course Descriptions

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES

Gain an appreciation for trends and technologies influencing today’s fields of graphic design and web page development. Hands-on workshop sessions introduce attendees to elements and principles of art and layout including line, shape, balance, composition, psychology of color and design theory. Learn to merge illustrative and typographic elements to create effective visual solutions for a variety of applications including advertisements, print brochures, logo development, web page layout.

Please bring the following items to class: X-acto knife, #2 pencil, straightedge, fine line black pen, colored markers, and a colorful magazine.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP

Develop basic skills in creating digital images. Topics addressed include Photoshop tools, channels, layers and typography, files formats, special effects, excellent  color, image enhancements, and photo montage. An introduction to electronic illustration for both print and web applications.

This class is a prerequisite for: Advanced Photoshop

Advanced Photoshop

Build advanced skills in electronic illustration. Workshop activities address the special effects capabilities of Photoshop, merging typographic and pictorial elements, advanced image editing, advanced layers, retouching and color correction. Class also introduces techniques for outputting images at desired size and quality for both print and Web applications.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photoshop
