Wine Specialist Certification Prep Program

Prepare to sit for the internationally recognized Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) Exam offered through the Society for Wine Educators with CSUSM's new 14-week prep program.

It is the only program of its kind in Southern California and will provide you with in-class instruction, assignments to help you learn the exam material, winery tours and tastings to get hands-on knowledge, and access to online study guides and materials to help you get ready for this exam.

Upon successful completion of CSUSM's new prep program, you will be prepared and ready to sit for this 100-question rigorous exam.

Class topics include:

  • US wine industry
  • Tasting technique
  • Wine defined
  • Viticulture and enology 
  • Lables, laws and wine regions
  • Wine production
  • Wine composition and chemistry
  • Grape varietals
  • Fermentation and still wine production
  • Sparkling and fortified wine production
  • International wine regions

Logistics:

Session One: February 12, 2018 - May 14, 2018 (Mondays)

  • Duration: 14 weeks
  • Time: 6:00pm - 9:30pm
  • Location: CSUSM and wineries in Temecula (transportation provided)
  • Fee: $2,100 includes exam fee, online support access for a full year, study guides, winery tours, some tastings
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Session Two: February 21, 2018 - May 23, 2018 (Wednesdays)

  • Duration: 14 weeks
  • Time: 6:00pm - 9:30pm
  • Location: CSUSM and wineries in Temecula (transportation provided)
  • Fee: $2,100 includes exam fee, online support access for a full year, study guides, winery tours, and some tastings
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
