Program Requirements

Admissions Requirements

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Nursing
• Current RN license
• 1-year of experience in the field of nursing

Note: If you do not hold a MSN degree, you will not be eligible for the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) classification as instructor to teach in BRN approved nursing programs.  However, you will be eligible to teach at the community college level.

Certificate Requirements

This program requires that candidates complete 10 semester units of online didactic instruction and 2 semester units of fieldwork at a local-area community college or university.  

In order to receive a certificate of completion from CSUSM, students must complete the following required courses:

EDUC 592 - Essential Elements of Adult Learning Theory (2 units)

EDST 633 - Design Online Experiences for Teaching and Learning (3 units)

NURS 456 - Teaching Nursing: Implementation of Theory into Practice (5 units)

NURS 1000 - Online Learning Success for Nursing Faculty

Fieldwork/Clinical Courses

NURS 457 - Practice Teaching Clinical Nursing (2 units)
