California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is one of only three universities in
the United States, and the only one on the West Coast, to offer the IB Certificate
in Teaching and Learning training for teachers.
The Distance Learning Program at CSUSM is a fully online two-semester course of study
that allows participants to acquire both theoretical knowledge of the IB program and
practical hands on experience at their home school. Program concept, philosophy, pedagogy,
assessment, standards, grading, reporting, curriculum and technology are covered.
Teachers completing this program are prepared to work in any IB school worldwide.
Those who complete both semesters will earn 10 units of academic credit, nine of which
may be applied towards an MA in Education at CSUSM or may be accepted as transfer
units to another university. In addition, candidates who finish the program are eligible
to apply for IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning, the official certification from
the International Baccalaureate Organization, signifying that they are prepared to
implement the IB curriculum in their schools. There are many new markets, and a great
demand, for IB teachers both in the United States and around the world.
The IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme is a
collaboration of the CSUSM School of Education and Department of Extended Learning.

If your school or district is new to IB or requires training of 10 or more participants, a customized or on site program may be available. Please contact Erika Ervin at eervin@csusm.edu for more information.
