Nursing Education Concentration

The Nursing Education concentration offers the student courses in the theories of adult learning, curriculum design and development, and classroom and online teaching strategies. This prepares the student to acquire educator roles within academia and service areas.

Clinical Nurse Leader Concentration

The Clinical Nurse Leader concentration prepares the student to be a leader, manager, and educator at the unit level. The Clinical Nurse Leader role is learned through courses in health systems leadership, quality improvement, evaluationa and accreditation in nursing organizations, financial resource management, and management of patients in the acute care setting. Students in the Clinical Nurse Leader concentration will be eligible to sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader Certification exam from AACN.

Advanced Practice Nursing Concentration

The Advanced Practice Nursing concentration will prepare students within the following areas:

Clinical Nurse Specialist Track

The Clinical Nurse Specialist tract prepares the student for advanced practice nursing through courses in advanced assessment, advanced pathophysiology/pharmacology, and advanced practice management of the chronically ill in the acute care and community settings. Students in the Clinical Nurse Specialist track may specialize in Adult Health, Gerontology, Pediatrics or Public Health. Students will complete 500 hours of advanced field study and will be eligible to sit for the National Certification exam in Adult Health, Gerontology, Pediatrics or Public Health upon completion of the MSN program.

Family Nurse Practitioner Track

The Family Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who delivers health care to individuals of all ages and their families throughout the lifespan. Family Nurse Practitioners serve as primary health care providers in a variety of settings. The Family Nurse Practitioner operates independent and collaborative practices in caring for patients and their families in the community. This includes skills in health assessment, diagnosis, health promotion, disease prevention, and management of common acute and chronic illnessess. Upon completion of course work, the student will be eligible for the ANCC credentialing exam and California NP Certification.

Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track

The Psychiatric-Mental Heath Nurse Practitioner is an advance practice registered nurse who focuses clinical practice on individuals, families, or populations across the life span at risk for developing and/or having a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a specialist who provides primary mental health care to patients seeking mental health services in a wide range of settings. This includes the assessment diagnosis and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. Upon completion of the program students will be eligible for the ANCC credentialing exam and California NP Certification.
