Topic 1: Taking Control of Your Care
Presented by: Helen McNeal, Executive Director of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care
In today’s rapidly changing health care environment and with more than 50% of those over age 65 having 1 or more chronic conditions, everyone needs to be a knowledgeable, effective health care consumer. Do you know how to TAKE CHARGE of your health care? Do you know what palliative care REALLY is? Most American’s think it is hospice … it is not. For anyone with a serious or chronic illness, palliative care can put the quality back into life. Join us and learn what you need to know about health care and palliative care, for yourself and those you love.
Topic 2: Acts of Caring and Kindness
Presented by: Judith Redwing Keyssar, Author of Last Acts of Kindness, (2011 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year award) and Director of the Palliative and End-of-Life Care at Jewish Family and Children's Services of the San Francisco Bay Area and one of the founders of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care.
With wisdom and wit, Ms. Keyssar will share poignant stories of those she has cared for in hospitals, facilities and homes, helping us understand and discuss the fact that we all have choices about how we live and how we deal with serious illness and end-of-life wishes.
