Welcome to EOP!

Welcome to California State University San Marcos, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).  EOP emerged from the Civil Rights movement in the late 1960's, with the issues being - the lack of access and equity for certain populations in our communities to higher education.  Therefore, in 1968, the Harmer Bill (SB 1072), established a statewide effort and EOP became a state funded program in 1969.  Due to the hard work of people who came before us, we now have EOP statewide.  Here at Cal State San Marcos, as one of the newer and smaller EOP programs, we are here to work with the same types of populations attempting to get into higher education.  Each year EOP admits a new class –first year freshman and transfer students.

Most of these students will bring the need for financial resources and a desire to overcome obstacles.

In response, the EOP program creates an environment in our program that is welcoming for all our students.  We have a Center that students can come to and work on the computer as well as meet other students to study or build community.  EOP also has outstanding counselors to work with our students to help them overcome the many obstacles they may be experiencing.

For that reason, I would like to invite all new incoming freshmen and transfer students to apply to EOP; we are committed to student success.
