California State University San Marcos seeks Tenure Track faculty for an academic year appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor who will serve as representative for the Health Services emphasis of the Human Development major.
Minimum requirements for the position include: Earned Ph.D. in Health Psychology, Health Sciences, Public Health or related field with training and research in the area(s) of the bio psychosocial model of health and illness. ABO candidates will be considered but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2014). Candidates must demonstrate the potential for success in teaching undergraduate students, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus. Candidates must also provide evidence of their ability to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program, leading to original, peer-reviewed publications
Preferred requirements for the position include: The ability to teach courses in specific areas of the curriculum, including Health and Human Development, Health in a Diverse Society, Applied Research in Human Development and our capstone course, Perspectives in Human Development beyond new courses in the health concentration that the candidate will help develop. Clinical experience preferred. CSUSM places great value upon the development of educational and research partnerships within the community. Candidates with a history of interdisciplinary collaboration and/or community-based research are desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with divers groups in teaching, research and/or service.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach health services related courses and will develop and teach existing and new undergraduate courses that incorporate a bio psychosocial model of health and illness. This individual will also be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate Human Development majors, develop and enhance experiential learning opportunities for students, develop and maintain an independent research program, and serve on college and university-level committees. As part of a growing department within the newly formed College of Education, Health and Human Services, the successful candidate will serve an important leadership role within the department, College and University.
