Assistant Professor


The School of Education at the California State University San Marcos invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Mathematics Education (with a secondary focus area in Educational Technology) at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Minimum qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Mathematics Education or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2017).  Candidates should have a strong background in the learning and teaching of mathematics, an active research agenda in mathematics education, and an understanding of integrating technology into teaching and learning of mathematics at the K-16 levels. Candidates should demonstrate strong mathematics content knowledge and a commitment to educational equity and social justice.

Desired/preferred qualifications:

Experience of teaching and supervising student teachers in mathematics at the secondary level. Experience of teaching mathematics at the secondary level in diverse settings. Collaborating with K-12 schools. Experience in external grant development or implementation. Educational technology development and research and intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.

DUTIES: Duties will include teaching mathematics education and educational technology courses in credential programs and graduate programs, supervision of teacher candidates in clinical practice, advisement of students in master’s and doctoral programs, and contribution to the ongoing development of credential and graduate programs. The candidate will establish and maintain scholarly activities in the field of mathematics education, collaborate with faculty in the School of Education and school district partners, College of Education Health and Human Services, and across the university on various grant projects and programs for the purpose of enhancing the teaching and research of STEM education in the public schools in the university’s service area. The candidate will also provide university and professional service.
