Assistant Professor

EFFECTIVE DATE:   Fall 2018

California State University San Marcos expects to hire a tenure-track assistant professor for Fall 2018 in the field of Social Psychology. We are looking for a social psychologist who specializes in prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination or on the effects of ethnic identity and acculturation/multiculturalism on behavior.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in social psychology or a related field prior to date of appointment. Only candidates with active research programs that can involve students will be considered.  Applicants must have demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the university level (e.g., student evaluations/summaries, peer observation summaries), and must be able to supervise Master’s theses.

Desired/preferred qualifications: Evidence of research productivity, an interest in supervising Master’s theses, and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, primarily in social psychology, including social research methods and the psychology of prejudice; will supervise Master’s theses; involve graduate and undergraduate students in an active research program; and participate in activities serving the department, college, university, and community. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research areas complement and expand upon our current tenure-track faculty offerings, as well as those whose work will take advantage of our ethnically diverse region. We welcome applicants with interests in interdisciplinary work.
