Chicana Feminism

Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Women's Studies

The Women’s Studies and Liberal Studies Departments at California State University, San Marcos invite applications for a tenure track position in Chicana feminism at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall, 2014. The position is a shared hire, with a primary appointment in Women’s Studies and partnering responsibilities in Liberal Studies. 

We seek a candidate with a primary area of expertise in Chicana feminism and a specialization in critical education theory.  Preferred areas of specialization also include sexualities, bodies, immigration, transnational feminisms, comparative education, and intersectional perspectives of schooling, identities, and community.

Duties will include teaching core and elective courses in Women’s Studies and Liberal Studies, including courses in the candidate’s primary areas of expertise; advising and providing leadership to students; university service activities at all levels of governance; and active engagement in research. 

Minimum requirements for the position include:  Ph.D. (or completion of degree requirements by August 1, 2014) in Women’s, Gender or Sexuality Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or other related disciplines; teaching, and/or research specialization, and/or other experience in Chicana feminism and critical education theory; a strong potential for scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the assistant-professor level; and demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Preferred requirements for the position include:  Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, whose work demonstrates a commitment to social justice and community engagement, and who demonstrate a commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.  Preference will also be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
