Office of the AVP, Human Resources and Campus Enterprises

The Associate Vice President is responsible for advising and making recommendations to the Vice President relative to overall university objectives, policies and plans wherever legal, risk management, safety, human resources, and enterprise matters are involved.

People:

  • Conducted weekly staff meetings; direct reports’ meetings every other week; family managers’ meetings monthly; and one-on-one meetings with direct reports either weekly or every other week
  • Scheduled daily review sessions for those in the office of Audio Assimilation Materials
  • Included standing item on weekly staff meetings to review Imagine 21 principles
  • Reviewed Winner’s Circle Network with Lou Tice topics
  • Reviewed Winner’s Circle Network topic on how we deal with failure at HRCE Family Managers’ Meeting
  • Drafted the job description for the University Event Scheduling Coordinator
  • Served on PEER Team to review nominations and select award recipients for each of eight recognition categories
  • Held several event scheduling transition meetings to move event scheduling to the oversight of the AVP, HRCE

Processes:

  • Began the creation of a complete database of all campus policies and procedures in Adobe PDF format to be posted on the web
  • Reviewed business continuity plans submitted by campus departments
  • Conducted trainings for various emergency management designees on emergency preparedness and the Standardized Emergency Management System for compliance with Executive Order 921 and for increased campus emergency preparedness
  • Worked with Planning, Design and Construction to relocate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) portable buildings
  • Attended the monthly CSU Emergency Managers Network meetings and Regional Emergency Managers meeting
  • Revised the reimbursement process for the University’s insurance premium costs (covered by the self-supports) to a more effective, automated process
  • Attended several space scheduling protocol subcommittee meetings to set guidelines for a change in scheduling on campus
  • Held meetings with the Statewide Emergency Management System (SEMS) Planning & Intelligence, Operations, Logistics, and Finance section chiefs to update emergency team designees and plan National Incident Management System (NIMS) training
  • Developed partnerships with the city of San Marcos for mutual aid and emergency support
  • Developed a draft campus-wide Business Continuity Plan to present to the Business Continuity Steering Committee
  • Identified locations for and coordinated the installation of evacuation chairs for disabled persons
  • Coordinated and relocated Office of the AVP Human Relations & Campus Enterprises to their new temporary location, as part of the Craven Renovation Project
  • Reviewed the draft process map for scheduling events on campus
  • Identified evacuation gathering locations to be used as part of the Building Marshal Program
  • Met with Student Life and Leadership regarding event scheduling and a campus master calendar

Campus Community:

  • Revised and conducted Emergency Preparedness trainings for new employee orientations
    and several on-campus groups
  • Worked with Facility Services to replace the evacuation maps in the Kellogg Library with updated maps
  • Designed the 2006 Peer Team website
  • Attended several meetings regarding the transition of copy services on campus to a vendor and the closing of the campus Copy Center 

Resources and Regulations:

  • Attended a meeting at the Chancellor’s Office with Financing and Treasury, and Capital Planning, Design and Construction regarding non-state funded capital projects
  • Reviewed Campus Emergency Plan for revisions for compliance with Executive Order 921
  • Completed annual Debt Service Coverage Ratio Analysis for Financing & Treasury
  • Converted manual deductible recovery litigation tracking process to computer-based files and accounting system
  • Developed the Avian Flu Business Continuity Plan and submitted it to the Chancellor’s Office
  • Acquired mobile generator for the EOC which is located at USB
  • Conducted an emergency scenario exercise activating the Emergency Operations Center in conjunction with the City of San Marcos
