Planning, Design and Construction
Planning, Design & Construction develops new facilities, major renovation, and minor capital improvements for the campus. We also provide staff support and direction to the Physical Master Plan Committee and the Campus Space Committee.
People:
- Created an Internal Workload Status Calendar
- Kicked off the “Who Moved Craven Hall” concept to the department coordinators
- Presented the concept of the Craven Hall Renovations project to approximately a dozen campus organizations and committees
Processes:
- Worked closely with IITS Capital Project Manager to provide updates on the status of each ongoing project and identify action steps that need to be taken jointly by IITS and Planning, Design and Construction (PDC)
- Collaborated with Procurement and Support Services to develop a process for receiving Group 2 equipment directly into Markstein Hall
Campus Community:
- Completed and occupied Markstein Hall
- Completed negotiations with Academic Affairs on how to reprogram the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building after the Chancellor’s Office Capital Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC) directed the campus to reduce significantly the number of instructional stations and faculty offices and to reduce costs by several million dollars
- Surveyed many campus constituents and asked them to photograph positive and negative campus physical aspects to assess revisions to the Campus Master Plan
- Worked with Academic Affairs to select a new faculty office furniture standard for the campus
- Worked with the Vice President, Finance and Administrative Services and the Foundation to determine how to best meet faculty and staff housing demands
- Met with all units that will be moved during the Craven Secondary Improvement Project to discuss their requirements for their temporary and permanent locations
- In support of the University Space Planning Committee, coordinated an open discussion with Vice Presidents, Deans, and AVP’s to discuss allocation of space and the implications to each division
- Designated and started construction of the Craven Hall Renovations
- Met with every staff and faculty member who moved into Markstein Hall to determine their office/space layouts
- The Move Team (IITS, FS, Mail), facilitated by PDC, presented “Moving – What to Anticipate” to the College of Business
- Worked with Police, Parking Services, and Student Health Services in planning for future space needs and capital improvement projects
- Worked with University Advancement and the Foundation in the development of the McMahan House
- The University Space Planning Committee received an “Honorable Mention” at the CSU Quality Improvement Symposium
- Worked with Athletics to complete a series of minor capital improvement projects and initiate the concept for funding, constructing, and operating an aquatic complex
Resources & Regulations:
- Conducted meetings with Foundation regarding managing costs and standard business operations for the Center for Children and Families, resulting in several hundred thousands of dollars in savings
- Conducted and continued meetings with the Foundation regarding managing costs and standard business operations for the Center for Children and Families
- Met with CPDC to conduct the compliance audit on the Kellogg Library and Clarke Field House
- Closed out the Group 2 budget for the Arts Building and Science Hall 2 and reconciled with PeopleSoft and State Controller’s Office
- Worked with the Emergency Operations Center to maximize funding available for the new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) facility
