CSUSM Faculty Center: Grant Development Roundtables and Workshops – Spring 2013
In its continuing efforts to support faculty in their pursuit of grants from external funding sources, the CSUSM Faculty Center will offer a series of workshops and roundtables. All faculty are invited to participate in these events. Leticia McCart, an independent program planning and grant writing consultant, will serve as the presenter. Over the past 15 years, Leticia has been very successful in helping faculty across the CSUS system in competing for major federal grants.All sessions will be held in KEL 2413. Please RSVP
Grant Development Roundtables:

National Science Foundation – Transforming Undergraduate Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics RSVP
This program [formerly the Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement Program] awards grants that improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for all undergraduate students. Funding is available to support efforts to create, adapt, and disseminate new learning materials and teaching strategies that offer advances both in STEM disciplines and in what is known about teaching and learning. Grant projects can be used to develop faculty expertise, implement educational innovations, assess learning and evaluate innovations, prepare K-12 teachers, or conduct research on STEM teaching and learning. U.S. Department of Education – Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program RSVP
This program provides funds to plan, develop, and carry out programs to strengthen and improve undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages. Eligible activities may include but are not limited to:
• Development of a global or international studies program that is interdisciplinary in design;
• Development of a program that focuses on issues or topics, such as international business or international health;
• Development of an area studies program and programs in corresponding foreign languages; and
• Establishment of internship opportunities for faculty and students in domestic and overseas settings.

National Endowment for the Humanities – Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants RSVP
This program is designed to encourage innovations in the digital humanities. Funding can be used for the following: 1) plan and develop prototypes of new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible digital resources; 2) scholarship that focuses on the history, criticism, and philosophy of digital culture and its impact on society;
3) studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications and impact of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanities, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines; 4) innovative uses of technology for public programming and education utilizing both traditional and new media; and 5) new digital modes of publication that facilitate the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels. Grants should result in plans, prototypes, or proofs of concept for long-term digital humanities projects prior to implementation.

How to Create an Opportunity from a Declined Proposal RSVP
One of the most frustrating aspects of the proposal writing experience is receiving notification that your project has been denied funding. What steps can you take to learn from the experience and continue your momentum in seeking funding? This workshop will focus on proposal resubmission or reconceptualization as a necessary part of the grant development cycle.

Planning and Writing Successful Federal Grant Proposals RSVP
This workshop includes two modules: 1) Planning and Developing the Project Concept and 2) Writing the Proposal and Preparing the Budget. The first module will walk participants through the steps involved in transforming a good idea into a solid grant project and the second module will provide participants with content and competitive strategies for writing typical sections of federal grant proposals. Lunch will be provided.
