Academic Senate Final Examination Policy
Student achievement shall be evaluated in all courses. Students shall be fully informed of the manner of their evaluations as well as the requirements and major assignments within the first three weeks of each semester. One method of summative evaluation is final examination. If a final is given, it must be held at the same time scheduled by the University unless it is a take-home exam in which case it shall be due no earlier that the day and time scheduled for the final exam for the class. Once established, the scheduled day and time for a final exam may not be changed unless approved by the dean of the college. No make-up final examination will be given except or reason of illness or other verified emergency. An instructor may not shorten the academic semester by scheduling an in-class examination in lieu of a final exam before the week scheduled for the final. The Dean of each college shall be responsible for ensuring that this policy is followed.
Final examinations are announced in the Schedule of Classes. The possibility of a student having two finals at the same time exists, so please announce the day and time of the finals in one of the first class meetings. Any variation to the announced days or times is done only with the approval of the dean of your college, in coordination with the Office of Curriculum Services.
If your class is broken into lecture and lab components, the final is scheduled according to the meeting time(s) of the lecture portion only.
If no meeting time is listed in the schedule for your class, feel free to call x4325 to determine the date/time of your final.
