CSUSM Academic Requirements for Financial Aid

Students at California State University, San Marcos must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to receive student financial aid. Satisfactory Academic Progress is reviewed, in general, at the end of each spring semester.  In addition, students enrolled in summer courses are reevaluated after summer grades are available.  Students with no previous CSUSM academic history are considered to be in good academic standing until completion of coursework is reviewed at their first evaluation period.

Federal regulations require that all institutions participating in Title IV federal student aid programs establish academic standards to ensure students make satisfactory progress towards their educational objectives.  Based on new federal regulations, the CSUSM Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress policy has been updated, effective for the 2011-12 academic year.  The Satisfactory Academic Progress policy requires evaluation of the following standards:

  • Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Pace
  • Maximum Timeframe
  • University Academic Good Standing
