CSUSM Scholarship Opportunities
 

Scholarships selected in the Fall semester

J. Douglas and Marian R. Pardee Foundation Scholarship~

 (50)  $2000 scholarships will be provided to qualified Cal State San Marcos students.  These $2000 awards are renewable for a second year to qualifying students. Applicants must file a FAFSA application showing financial need and also have a 3.25 GPA.  Renewal awards will be based on recipients maintaining a 3.00 GPA. The 50 scholarships will be selected from the following groups for 2007-08 and 2008-09:

(10) Students from CoBA.  (5) entering freshmen and (5) transfer students

(10) Students from CoAS   (5) entering freshmen and (5) transfer students

(10) Students from the School of Nursing all to be entering freshmen

(10) Students who are returning to pursue their education, any year students

(10) Students from the College of Education -  all to be 5th year credential students.  Since this is a one year program, new applicants from College of Ed will be awarded the scholarships in 2008-2009.

Alumni Association Scholarship ~ 2 awards at $250 each to a Cal State San Marcos alumnus enrolled in a degree or certificate program, enrolled in at least 6 units. Two letters of recommendation from a professional source (such as a Dean, Professor or workplace supervisor) are required and should be submitted with the General Scholarship Application.

Bree Tinney Women’s Studies Scholarship ~ One award at $850 to a student enrolled in the Cal State San Marcos Women’s Studies program with a major or minor in Women’s Studies, enrolled in at least 6 units, financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, and has demonstrated academic achievement.

John Burnham Foundation Scholarship ~ Two awards at $2000 each for a graduate or undergraduate business or pre-business student who is enrolled in at least 6 units, a career objective in business, financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75.

Robert and Elisabeth Crouch ~ Four awards for $2000 each to students who are enrolled in the College of Business. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher and, must have financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid Office. Must be enrolled full- time, in at least 12 units for each semester. This scholarship is renewable up to four years, as long as a FASFA application, General Scholarship Application and the GPA requirement are met each year.

CSU Graduate Equity Fellowship ~ Two awards at $2000 each and one award at $1000 to graduate students who are underrepresented in their areas of study, with an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, are California residents, and have financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Jean and W. Keith Kellogg Scholarship ~ Four awards at $1500 each to undergraduate students who are registered in at least 12 units, financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, with a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.35.

Jim Kuden Endowed Scholarship ~ One award will be given for $400 to a student who is majoring in Mathematics, Economics, Communication or Physics. Student must have a 3.0 minimum overall GPA, have financial need and be enrolled as a full time student in at least 12 units for undergraduate students and 9 units for graduate students.

Edmund Kwan Memorial Scholarship ~ One award for $460 will be offered to a Finance Major. Must have a 3.0 or better GPA and must be enrolled as a Senior. Student must have financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office .

Peggy Adams Memorial Scholarship ~ Three awards at $500 each will be selected for someone who is a re-entry student who has experienced an interruption in their education. Has overcome obstacles such as, but not limited to, single parenthood, a debilitating illness, divorce, and/or loss of employment. Financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

President’s Circle Scholarship ~ Two awards at $2500 for a student with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, and financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
 

Scholarships that are selected in the Spring semester

CSUSM Avid Scholarship ~ One $1000 scholarship for a student who was enrolled in a high school AVID program, has high financial need, and has overcome obstacles. Donor is very interested in assisting those students who have struggled to get to college.

Community Service Scholarship ~ Ten awards are given, five to students who have financial aid need, as determined by the CSUSM Financial Aid and Scholarship Office and five to non-financial aid students. Awards are for student’s enrolled fulltime (9 units or more to include registration in HD 499); 3.0 GPA, 3.3 high school GPA if a freshman; student must be willing to volunteer for at least 170 hours during the award year and register for the course “Service in the Community” HD 499. Awards are given after the Community Service requirement has been met.

John Durkee Scholarship For Disabled Students ~ One $1000 scholarship is awarded to a student who must be enrolled in at least 3 units; have financial need; and a 3.0 GPA. Completion of the Durkee Scholarship Disability Certification Form is required.

Leonard and Jean Evers Memorial Computer Scholarship ~ For entering freshman that have a 3.0 or higher GPA, high financial need and evidence of overcoming obstacles. Students who are awarded will have the use of a completely configured new laptop computer for the four years that they attend CSUSM and will own the computer upon graduation from CSUSM. At least 40 lap tops will be awarded.

Fenstermaker Foundation Scholarship ~ For students who will major in biology, chemistry, or computer science, with a 3.50 or higher GPA. Each scholarship may be up to $7000 annually and may be renewable. Financial need is NOT a criterion. At least three scholarships will be awarded.

Geico Direct Internship/Scholarship Program ~ One scholarship for $5000 and a paid part-time internship at Geico Direct is available to a junior or senior who is majoring in Business Administration and has a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students must be registered in at least 3 units during the Fall and Spring semesters. And have demonstrated abilities in Accounting, Math and Statistics per their transcript.  Financial Need is not a criterion.  A letter of recommendation from a faculty member, Dean or an Associate Dean and a complete academic transcript is required.

The Robert H. and Catherine H. Goldsmith Scholarship ~ One award of $1500 is awarded based on financial need, academic merit, and potential of the student to be a contributing professional likely to bring credit to Cal State San Marcos. The primary purpose of this award is to encourage students who have completed an undergraduate degree in business at CSUSM to further their education at CSUSM by enrolling in the CSUSM MBA program.

Anne Kay Scholarship ~ Five $1500 scholarships are awarded to students that have transferred directly from a community college and are enrolled for the first time at CSUSM. Requirements include a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of at least 3.0 and financial need as determined by the FAFSA application.

Carolyn R. Mahoney Scholarship ~ One $500 award is made to a mathematics major who is enrolled at least full-time and has a 3.0 or higher GPA. Financial need is NOT a criterion.

Louis V. Messner Memorial Scholarship in Accounting ~ One award for $600 is awarded to a currently enrolled junior majoring in accounting, with a cumulative 3.0 GPA, must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Science/University Ball Scholarship ~ One scholarship for up to $500 to a student who is majoring in Science. Student must have and maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA. Financial need is a requirement, as determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Student must be enrolled in at least 6 units for the fall and spring semesters.

Lillian S. Sherman Scholarship ~ One award for $1750 for a Native American Indian Student as noted in the FASFA and required scholarship essay, must have demonstrated service or involvement in your tribe or the American Indian community, must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, must be enrolled as a part- time student (minimum 6 units for undergraduate; minimum 9 units for graduate students.)

Ella J. Thedinga Memorial Scholarship ~ At least 6 awards are given to entering freshmen that demonstrate financial need, have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.35 or higher. Awards are for $1500 each and may be renewed up to 3 additional years if students meet renewal criteria. The renewal criteria is passing at least 24 units within the previous year, with an overall GPA of at least 2.75, maintain academic integrity, and continue to demonstrate financial need.

Gregson Bautzer University Fund
Established in 1991 by Mrs. Nicola D. Bautzer, this scholarship is open only to incoming freshman students who have graduated from the California Academy of Mathematics and Science and who are continuing their education at any of the California State University campuses. The scholarship recipients are selected by the California Academy of Mathematics and Science, and awarded $2,000 per year for four years. Applications are available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office in January of each year.
 
Glenn and Dorothy Dumke Fellowship
One $1,000 fellowship is awarded each year to a CSU graduate student at any campus in the area of public policy, American history, economics, archival management, or government in honor of the late Chancellor Emeritus Glenn S. Dumke and his wife Dorothy. Dr. Dumke was Chancellor of the California State University from 1962 to 1982. Applications are available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office in January of each year.
 
William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
One Scholarship of $6,000 and eighteen $3,000 awards recognize students who have demonstrated financial need and attributes of merit, including but not limited to, superior academic performance, community service, and personal achievements. The awards are funded by an endowment from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation and individual contributions from the CSU Board of Trustees. Campus Presidents nominate one applicant per campus. Applications are available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office in January of each year.
 
Angelina Aliberti Ruggie and Lawrence L. Ruggie Endowed Scholarship
Applicants must be satisfactorily pursuing a course of study in the humanities, including law and the field of social work, but excluding military sciences. Scholarships are awarded on a rotational basis to all 23 campuses. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2006 - 2007 academic year, one each from the following campuses: CSU San Marcos and Sonoma State University. Applications are available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office in January of each year.
 
Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students
The $5,000 award provides assistance for full-time students at any CSU campus who are declared visually impaired. CSU undergraduates or graduate students in any major field are eligible with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. Twenty-three awards will be made for the 2006 - 2007 academic year; the Financial Aid office on each campus selects the recipients. Applications are available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office in January of each year.

 

Other Scholarship Opportunities

Carol Cox Re-Entry Scholarship ~ One award at $600 for a female student who has re-entered a degree program after a break in her education, who is enrolled in at least 6 units each semester and has a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater and shows financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Ina Mae Akinson Scholarship ~ One award each semester (fall and spring) at $600 each to undergraduate female students who are at least 30 years old, and have experienced an interruption in their education, is enrolled in at least 6 units, and has financial need as determined by the Cal State San Marcos Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

African American Scholarship ~ One $950 award to an African American student with a 3.0 or higher GPA and financial need.

ASI American Indian in honor of Lee Dixon Scholarship ~ One $1000 award for a tribally enrolled American Indian student. Academic achievement, service to the Indian Community, and financial need will be considered. Preference will be given to incoming freshmen. Proof of tribal affiliation required, prior to awarding.

Jane Lynch Scholarship ~ One $300 scholarship is awarded to a non-U.S. citizen, but in the U.S. progressing toward permanent residency, proof of progress is required. Student needs to be enrolled in at least 6 units, documented academic merit, financial need, and documented (per essay) that he/she has overcome obstacles or adversity in order to attend CSUSM.

Jeremy Gabriel Mancilla Memorial Scholarship ~ One scholarship for $500 will be awarded to a Latina or Latino student, who must be a high school senior during the current Spring, from either San Marcos or Twin Oaks High School. Financial need is a criteria, based on a FAFSA application submitted by March 2nd of that year. This scholarship was established in memory of a former San Marcos high school student, who was tragically killed in 1994. The student’s mother is a staff member at CSUSM.

Bree Tinney Re-entry Scholarship ~ One $150 scholarship is awarded to a female undergraduate student who is a single parent resuming her studies after an extended break. Must have a 3.0 transfer GPA and demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

SSGT Benton Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes those students who have served in the United States Marine Corp and who demonstrate financial need and attributes of merit, including scholastic achievement. Two scholarships for $2500 will be made available to all 23 CSU campuses. Applications and selection criteria is available in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
