Description of the
Organization
California State University San Marcos is one of 23 CSU campuses.
Founded in 1989, the campus currently has more than 200 faculty
serving nearly 8,000 students. The 304-acre campus is located in the
foothills of northern San Diego County. The university offers rigorous
undergraduate and graduate programs distinguished by exemplary
teaching, innovative curricula, and the application of new
technologies. CSUSM focuses on the student as an active participant in
the learning process. Students work closely with a faculty of active
scholars and artists whose commitment to sustained excellence in
teaching, research, and community partnership enhances student
learning. CSUSM provides a range of services that responds to the
needs of a student body with diverse backgrounds, expanding student
access to an excellent and affordable education. As a public
university, CSUSM grounds its mission in the public trust, alignment
with regional needs, and sustained enrichment of the intellectual,
civic, economic, and cultural life of our region and state.
The
University Office of Research and Sponsored Projects supports the
campus's values of intellectual engagement, integrity, and innovation
by promoting faculty research, scholarly, and creative activities. The
office develops and administers policies and procedures designed to
support the research goals of the campus. In the area of sponsored
projects, the office is responsible for helping faculty and staff seek
external support for their scholarly activities. Working closely with
the CSUSM Foundation, the Associate Vice President for Research
ensures that all agency guidelines and university policies are
followed in the process of submitting proposals for grants and
contracts.
The
California State University San Marcos Foundation is an official
auxiliary of the CSU. It is the authorized fiscal agent for grants and
contracts and is therefore authorized to submit proposals on behalf of
the university. The Foundation provides support, service, and
opportunity to advance the goals of the university. Through its grant
and contract services, business and financial services, receipt and
administration of gifts and donations, and other entrepreneurial
operations, the Foundation generates and manages additional resources
and assets in support of the university's existing and emerging
programs.
The
Foundation Office of Grants and Contracts provides professional and
timely assistance to faculty and staff in their pursuit of externally
funded research and sponsored programs. It serves as the
administrative and financial liaison between faculty/staff and
sponsors, enhancing the capability of Cal State San Marcos to generate
and administer external awards for instructional, research, public
service, and scholarly activities.
