Office 2016 for MAC

How to get Office 2016 if you have an Office 365 Home, Personal, or University subscription

Ways to upgrade

What you need to do

Install now from the My Account page

Sign in to your My Account page, choose Install, and then choose Install again. Your Office 2016 installation will download in the background, allowing you to continue to use your current Office 365 programs.

Tips: If your current version of Office 365 isn't up to date, a manual update will fail and you won't get an upgrade notification. To make sure your version is up to date, use the following steps.

  1. Open any Office application and choose File > Account. (If you're using Outlook, choose File > Office Account.)
  2. Under Product Information, choose Update Options > Update Now to make sure you have the latest version before upgrading to Office 2016.

Note: The process to uninstall Office 2013 and install Office 2016 can take some time. When the installation completes, you'll see a welcome video that explains how to find your apps and start Office 2016.

Wait for a notification telling you to update

When your automatic upgrade is ready for you to install, you'll get a notification on the menu bar of your Office applications (for example, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook). These notifications will appear over the next few weeks.

Follow the steps to update to the current version of Office. It’s important to update when prompted so you continue to receive the latest updates to Office 365. If you choose to wait, you can close the notification, but it will continue to reappear until you update to the latest version.
