The
goal of the German Club is to create a social environment
that is designed to promote the benefits of the
German language program at CSUSM.

Members share
the camaraderie of German culture in an academic
and interpersonal atmosphere that promotes individual
growth, local community involvement, and global awareness.

We
don’t speak German at the meetings. Members
consist of German language students , study abroad
students, exchange students, those who are German
or those who have been to Germany or other German
speaking countries and of course those just interested
in the culture.
Why
German?
It is an exciting time to be learning German for
many reasons. As we begin a new millennium with
a shifting world order, the German language represents
a bridge between the cultures of Eastern and Western
Europe. German is the most widely spoken language
in all of Europe and it is a language of tourism
worldwide. Germany’s economic strength makes it
of central importance in the European Union, and
also to the US. Germany is America’s largest European
trading partner, and its third largest worldwide.
Germany has also played an eminent role in the history
and development of the continent, and with such
important figures as Luther, Goethe, Mozart, Bach,
Kant, Nietzsche, Marx, Freud, Mann, Kafka, Brecht,
Einstein, and many others, German culture has made
a significant contribution to humankind.
