The General Education Writing Program (GEW), as part of the Literature and Writing
Studies Department (LTWR), reflects the mission and values of both the University
GEW values critical thinking and writing, which we believe form the core of a university education. Our courses focus on a multi-layered writing process. GEW faculty introduce students to the conventions of academic writing through frequent feedback from instructors and peers, analytical reading of primary and secondary sources, and information literacy.
Because students’ success in academia relies on a broad understanding of their world, students respond to and analyze various genres and cultural perspectives. The GEW experience fosters processes of thinking and writing that prepare students for their academic and career pathways.
