Ms. Helen Adams retired from Deloitte & Touche LLP, a “Big 4” certified public accounting firm, in 2009. Since March of 2010, she has been a board member, Audit Committee Chair and Compensation Committee member of LRAD Corporation (NASDAQ: LRAD), formerly American Technology Corporation.
In more than 27 years of experience with Deloitte, Ms. Adams served in many leadership roles in and outside the Firm. Her experience was particularly focused on technology, including the software, life sciences and clean technology industries. She is considered an international expert in independent power producer (IPP) financing structures and as an Audit Partner was often consulted regarding complex issues facing multinational IPPs in the US and abroad. Throughout her career, Ms. Adams has been a champion of process improvement within the accounting profession, most recently serving on Deloitte’s National Steering Committee for the Assurance and Advisory Services Group.
Ms. Adams has a passion for the advancement of not-for-profit and professional organizations in San Diego. She has served in executive positions on the boards of directors of the Senior Community Centers, Make a Wish of San Diego, and the YWCA, and in professional/trade organizations such as the Chairmen’s Roundtable and the American Wind Energy Association. Ms. Adams most recently served as the Chairman of the Board for Athena – San Diego, a leadership organization for executive women in science and technology. She is an active member of the San Diego Corporate Directors Forum, the California Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Throughout her career, Ms. Adams’ efforts in mentoring staff and peers lead to her reputation as a most requested mentor and counselor for Deloitte as well as within Athena, where she co-founded Athena’s mentoring program.
Ms. Adams has 5 daughters, all of whom are grown and live in the San Diego area. She enjoys reading and gardening, and currently participates as a competitor, judge and teacher in the organized sport of competitive country western dancing.
