Spanish Theater in Almagro, Spain

Summer 2010
Program Highlights:
Each July, the small town of Almagro in the Castilla-La Mancha region on central Spain, comes alive for the world famous Festival de Teatro Clasico, a celebration of live performances from such playwrights as Lope de Vega, Calderon de la Barca, Miguel de Cervantes and others. As a participant in this program, you will not only be able to meet and learn from some of Spain's best stage actors and directors, but read, study and act out scenes from Spanish plays in student-friendly acting workshops. This program is designed to deepen your understanding of classical Spanish theater, character portrayal and development, and the Spanish language.
This course will be co-taught by CSUSM Spanish Professor, Darci Strother, and professional actor, Jose Yenque. Field trips to surrounding areas will be decided upon arrival, while independent travel around Spain before or after the program is definitely possible. Admission to five live performances at the Festival de Teatro is included in your program fees.
