History majors entering before Fall 2007 who want to complete the major
under the new requirements must consult advisors and

Students who began working on a history major prior to the 2007-2008 academic year may continue under the old requirements or adopt the new ones.

Preparation for the major under the new requirements includes completion of twelve units of lower-division history study which must include sequences in two world areas.

Completion of twelve units of lower-division general education courses is required, including completion of GEW 101 or an equivalent.

Students must have competence in a foreign language equivalent to completion of three semesters of study at the university or college level.

Students must complete thirty-three upper-division history units including HIST 301 and a 400-level history seminar (or 500-level graduate course with the instructor's permission).

At least one upper-division course must deal mainly with history before 1800.

Upper-division courses in the major must deal with at least three different world areas (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, the United States, and comparative transnational history).

One course must have considerablewomen's history/gender history content.

Students must complete all courses for the major with a grade of C (2.0) or better, and may include no more than three (3) units of internship toward the major.
